Superior K9 Xperience is a professional dog behavior modification trainer dedicated to helping you and your beloved canine companion build a strong bond and develop excellent manners. My name is Derek, and I have been passionately working with dogs for over 25 years, making their lives happier and more fulfilling.
I have always had an immense love for animals, especially dogs, and this passion led me to pursue a career as a dog trainer. I understand that every dog is unique, with a different personality, temperament, and learning style. That's why I believe in using techniques tailored to each individual dog, ensuring their training experience is enjoyable and effective.
With extensive experience in canine behavior and training methodologies, I am well-versed in various obedience training techniques, behavior modification strategies, and specialized training programs. From basic obedience commands like sit, stay, and come, to more advanced skills such as off leash training, I am equipped to guide your furry friend toward success.
Beyond obedience training, I also emphasize the importance of addressing behavioral issues that may hinder the harmonious coexistence between you and your dog. Whether it's excessive barking, separation anxiety, leash pulling, or fear-based behaviors, I am committed to identifying the root causes and implementing proven techniques to foster positive change.
My training philosophy revolves around creating a nurturing and supportive environment for both dogs and their owners, without using fear, submission or intimidation. I firmly believe that education and clear communication play a vital role in building a strong and trusting relationship. Throughout our training, I will not only work closely with your dog but also provide you with the necessary tools and knowledge to continue their training at home.

SERVICES
Superior K9 Xperience believes every dog is different and should be treated that way. Training is never "one size fits all" or "cookie cutter" to us. We believe in getting to, and fixing, the root cause of issues, not just slapping a Band-Aid on.
Through a variety of services, we try to offer affordable, effective, ideal options for every person and budget. While our training is not cheap, we believe in "value over price", and that you truly do get what you pay for. That being said, we do try to stay lower in our prices as we don't believe dog training should only be for the wealthy.
Training is always going to be an investment. You will only get out of it what you put into it. Our methods are fun, safe, effective, and humane for human AND dog. We firmly believe in the ethical use of punitive tools (prong collars, eCollars, crates, etc) to help owner and dog both understand and enjoy life together more safely and effectively. We will ALWAYS teach dog and owner BOTH how to use tools safely and effectively to achieve the best possible results.

“Board and train” simply refers to sending your dog to a trainer's home or facility for intensive training.
ABOUT
Originally from Texas, Derek is highly experienced in rescuing and rehabilitating dogs from horrible conditions and integrating them into his pack to teach them how to be dogs again. He prides himself on earning the trust and respect of dogs who otherwise knew neither. Derek attended Animal Behavior College and completed a degree in Dog Training and Behavior.

I highly recommend this trainer for anyone seeking great advice, help, and knowledge on raising your dog. Derek worked with Banjo and us for five weeks of in-home coaching. We can not thank Derek enough for helping us turn our whole household around. We were a two dog household for 6 years and then fell in love with a foster who we adopted. It soon became apparent we were in over our heads. Our newest addition was wild and unruly and she and one of our originals started getting into fights. We now had three big dogs all feeding off of each other - constant barking, jumping, rough housing, and just plain chaos. After a 3 week board and train for the newbie and 5 weeks of in home sessions with all three dogs, we are now in charge of our home and all three dogs are calmer, wayyyy better behaved, know their commands, and are all around happier. Derek taught not only the dogs but also our family how to exist in a structured environment that gives everyone the respect, space, and of course loves, that make a home a happy one!

We were at our wits end with our Husky Pup Wynter. She had no structure and would terrorize our poor cats. She was very much and still is an active pup. I was failing her and had no idea how to train a working dog. I am so thankful I reached out and Derek has opened my eyes to what she is capable of. We did a 5 week bootcamp and I will be honest it was harder for me to change my ways than Wynter. I can now go for hikes with her off leash and we are still working and learning everyday. The amazing thing is we have Derek to reach out to for help if we ever need it. I can't say enough about him and what he has done for me and for Wynter.

We are so thankful for Derek giving Thor the tools to navigate new and potentially stressful situations, which allows his world to become so much bigger and brighter. We adopted Thor through a local rescue organization that had enrolled him in Derek's board and train program to help with confidence issues. Even though we didn't know Thor before Derek started working with him, his training is clearly evident. There is a consensus amongst friends and family (even those who consider themselves "more of a cat person") that Thor is the most respectful, patient, well-mannered, and obedient dog they have ever met.Thor loves to go for walks or out to brunch and people consistently go out of their way to comment on how attentive and well-behaved he is. Its not unusual for someone to roll their window down and yell "Hey! How do I teach my dog to do that!" ... when in reality what Thor is doing is nothing. Simply coexisting harmoniously with the chaotic environment around him. We are so proud of Thor and love him so much.

10/10 recommend Derek. He works with a lot of the difficult dogs in the rescue I volunteer for so when I wanted help Becoming a better dog handler I knew who to call! We had just adopted a German Shepherd mix, and I wanted to make sure that he received training to be off leash trained and well mannered. We not only were able to do that with him but our other Rescue and I feel more confident as a dog handler because of it. With his guidance, we are able to take both of them on a hiking trip in Ohio and not once had an issue at any of the trails or parks we are at and we came across many different dogs and people. Even though he told me I was weak to start I feel like I am pretty strong now.
